This is a celebration of not only Russian. It is widely celebrated in many republics of the former USSR, including Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus, Moldova. Traditionally, since the good old Soviet times, because it was established by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in 1980.
And it would be wrong if we say that it is celebrated only by people in white coats, who devoted his life to this noble profession. Far from it. And, in addition to doctors, nurses, scientists, chemists, biologists, pharmacists, engineers and technologists associated with medicine, nurses, paramedics, representatives of hundreds of occupations. This day is close to us all. Because we've all come to life in the hospital, and throughout life was more than once in a particular Department of a hospital, call a doctor or "Ambulance" home.
Remember those who helped us during that difficult time!? Who did not sleep at night, tracking your restful sleep, ready to come to our assistance on the first call?! Who in the frost and cold, rain and snow rushes in boots or boots on a rural road to a sick old man or a child!? All this – the followers of the glorious works of Hippocrates, who took an oath in his name and bearing painful, but noble burden healer all my life.
How many of humanity? This question will not meet any one researcher. But, there are just as many, and medicine. Because primitive man needed help with injuries, certain diseases. And if humanity survived, evolved, so that was promoted and primitive healers. Together with people they had help, apparently, and the animals they domesticated.
All this was a long time ago. But it was. And today, our physicians are sometimes used not to pills and injections, and herbs, infusions, folk medicine is alive and active. Sometimes, more powerful than science.
Any of us can instantly recall the unique doctors, known around the world. Operations that they made. The technique of treatment used. And returned to the health, eyesight, limbs, in General, the ability to live, to enjoy life, to work and to benefit society. People in white coats – it humanists, professionals who love people and are able to sympathize and empathize with them. This is great workers, constantly working, constantly seeking new approaches to human diseases.
