ENDay of a walrus
Recommendation on marine mammals and the World Wide Fund for Nature acted as ideological inspirers of the organization of Day of the Walrus. Date is chosen essentially; the matter is that in the fall the largest Pinnipedia move to winter to the Bering Strait from the Chukchi Sea. They do it for one big reason – change of climatic conditions with characteristic warming. Representatives of fauna of the northern hemisphere move from glaciers to the land (coast), creating the colonies there. In these conditions it is extremely heavy to winter to the younger generation of mammals.
This day the attention is focused that in connection with migration of animals, it is simpler to get closer to them to poachers, and besides, walruses suffer owing to movement of industrial vessels and port of mining companies of hydrocarbon in waters of the North Ledovity ocean. For today two subspecies – laptiyevsky and Atlantic walruses are already entered in the Russian Red List.
Day of the Walrus purchased popularity in the Arctic districts of the country, but his organizers hope for growth of the territory of celebration. This day it is accepted to hold scientific expeditions, to organize ecological actions for support of animals. Date is directed to forming of ecological education and culture of dwelling of the population together with wild animals.
