ENDay of struggle for the rights of persons with disabilities
Worldwide date 5 may was celebrated as a Day of struggle for the rights of persons with disabilities. This day aims to draw the attention of all the people on issues that relate to the protection of the rights of citizens with disabilities, as clearly seen that their right to available infrastructure, employment, education does not often observed even in economically developed countries.
Its the start of the international day counts from 5 may 1992. The importance of this event for Russia evident – the us every year are recognised as disabled about 3.5 million people (more than 1 million people – for the first time). In 2008 there were more than 13 million people with disabilities.
Then people with disabilities from 17 countries, held at the same time the first European day for equal rights and against discrimination of people with disabilities.
In 2008, the Russian Federation signed the global UN Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities, soon it will be ratified. In this regard, the Russian legislation should be brought in line with this international document. The health Ministry is preparing a document that extends the capabilities and rights of people with disabilities in Russia, its implementation is planned to begin in 2010.
Adopted in 2006, 13 December the UN Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities. She had to make radical changes in the existing situation. This decision opens the beginning of a new era, when people with disabilities will have equal opportunities and rights.
In Russia almost always say — persons with disabilities. In the West it — people with physical disabilities. It's almost the same, but, as rightly believes fighters for the rights of these people in Russia with disabilities — practically the most vulnerable categories of the population.
