Engineering troops day

The engineering troops are from the time of Peter the great on January 21, 1701 on the establishment in Moscow ’s school of dance order.  In this school trained officers artillery and combat engineers. Alumni ’School Pushkarskaya order– 1702 were completed with the first MINERGIE units of the regular Russian army. 

 

January 16, 1712 Peter the great ordered to separate the engineering school from school Pushkarskaya order to expand it. After his order was created and the St. Petersburg engineering school (1719 year). And 4 years later the Moscow school was transferred to St. Petersburg and joined with St. Petersburg. In these schools were trained non - commissioned officers of engineer troops. 

 

To increase the attractiveness of these schools and to enhance the importance of the engineering troops of Peter I in his table of ranks 1722 officers of the engineers reckons to rank higher officers of infantry and cavalry.

 

The Central body of the engineers was the office of the chief of artillery and fortification. In 1753, the head of the school of engineering was appointed engineer-General Abram Petrovich Hannibal, the famous "the Negro of Peter the Great", great-grandfather of A. S. Pushkin.

 

Engineer troops participated in all the battles to defend the Fatherland. Knowledge, courage and bravery of military engineers largely contributed to the successful conduct of hostilities in the war of 1812, in the defense of Sevastopol (1854 – 1855), during the Russo-Japanese war (1904—1905) and the first world war (1914—1918). A significant contribution was made by the corps of engineers and liquidation of consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
