ENThe international day of monuments and historic sites
Monuments – this is our story, a glimpse through the centuries into the past, and another reason to think about the value that can be individual, thinking about the present and the future. They have meaning, and the culture as a whole and for each individual in particular.
In 1983, thanks to the decision of the Assembly of the next Board of UNESCO established the international day of monuments and historical places. However, in the Soviet Union in 1924, long before the adoption of similar solutions historically significant places were provided special treatment and protection. Ancient settlements, burial mounds and mounds were supposed to remain intact under all circumstances as a historical heritage. Unfortunately, ten years later this decision was reversed, and many important scientific and cultural places left simply plowed or, at best, abandoned. Already in the mid-1970s, the Soviet government had second thoughts and decided again to take care of the monuments of the past.
Unfortunately, we are seeing a trend of a more caring attitude to historical and cultural monuments in European spaces, rather than in our own country. How well and thoroughly the existing our heritage will be preserved for our posterity, depends solely on our behavior with monuments, careful handling with them and understanding their importance in the life of the whole people.
